100Fun Learning Centre provides a fun, safe, and interactive platform for teenagers to expand their social lives. Other than offering a wide range of tutorial services, we also coordinate various team-based entertainment activities such as board games, sports, and volunteer services. The goal is to ensure the well-being of students’ physical and mental health.
Our director, Jeffery Chow, is an enthusiastic educator with over 10 years of high school teaching/tutoring experience across Hong Kong and Canada. Before embarking on a teaching career, he received a score of A in Mathematics in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination(HKCEE). He was the only student from his school to achieve an A in that school year. In his high school years, he was involved in numerous extracurricular activities including serving as the chairman of the student union and as the basketball team captain. Though he majored in BBA (Hons) Financial Engineering, his passion lies in teaching and educating youngsters. Thus, after graduating university, he followed his dream and decided to become a Math teacher where he taught at his high school
Besides teaching, he also helped coaching the basketball team and assisted with coordinating events that foster student development. He is a highly enthusiastic and caring educator and gets along very well with his students.
He is now residing in Calgary and is a full-time Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). Though his full-time job is not related to teaching, he believes that anyone can become an educator to inspire young people. His ultimate goal in his teaching career, beyond improving his students’ academic grades, is to establish long-term relationships with the students. Jeffery’s purpose behind coordinating activities at 100Fun is to improve teenagers’ social skills and cultivate their personal growth. He aims at fostering self-esteem and resilience in his students and empowering them to become self-directed learners.
At 100 Fun, we often collaborate with various charity organizations in Calgary in hopes of assisting our students to expand their potentials. On top of that, we hope that these volunteer experience would serve to cultivate a sense of responsibility to the community.
Our tutors are qualified and passionate. Our tutorials incorporate both traditional and discovery math learning; not only do students learn the basics of math calculation and formulas, they also learn the tricks and tips to tackle exam questions. In addition, our interactive lessons effectively engages the students and will not leave them feeling bored and frustrated. Our tutorials incorporate the “Asian-style” teaching, which emphasizes building strong foundational knowledge and practice tests. We also create our own customized Math notes that target the Alberta Diploma Exam content. All of our students demonstrate significant improvement in their Mathematics courses.
English Language Arts
Our English tutors are patient, caring, and high-achieving university students who have achieved excellent grades on their high school diploma exams. What you may expect from these tutorials is an in-depth, word by word analysis of literary texts (which you do not receive in a classroom setting due to the time limit of each class), as well as essay practices that prepare students for the upcoming diploma exams. Some of the major difficulties that students encounter when it comes to essay writing are often grammatical errors and their inability to articulate their insights in a clear and formal manner. Being aware of this insufficiency, our tutors are well-trained to tackle these issues and guide students to become better writers.
Our comprehensive ESL program targets the four main areas of learning English: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Oral. This course aims at assisting new comers from other countries to adapt into the Canadian environment. Similarly, the focus is on building foundational knowledge on the English language including proper pronunciation, grammar practices, sentence structuring and effective writing. These skills are necessary in order for students to handle both their high school diplomas, and even university-level courses.
We also offer tutorials other than the ones listed above. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you are more than welcome to send us an inquiry and a brief description of the subject area you need assistance with. We will do our best to find you a suitable tutor!
One of the problems that modern-day parents face is teenage computer game addiction. Recent studies have shown the negative effects of video game addiction on teenagers: it weakens social skills and results in a lack of direct communication among adolescents. As such, we regularly coordinate team-based activities that aims at lessening teenagers’ reliance on video games. By organizing sports and group activities, we encourage young adults to step out of their comfort zones and eventually improve their social skills.
Our personal growth activities mainly target overseas students from Hong Kong or Mainland China. We would like to establish a stronger connection within the Cantonese-speaking community in Calgary. To ensure the well-being of our students’ mental health, we often organize small group/ one-on-one reflection sessions with our students. The topics for each session vary from life goals/ career plans, to moral values. These reflection sessions encourage youngsters to self-reflect on their lives and motivate them to seek the meaning of life. They also involve re-cultivating and reminding youngsters of the Chinese/Canto culture.
